Man of the Year 2015

At a gala celebration on March 28, 2015 the Mustang Scholars Foundation recognized Admiral Thomas Lynch, Ret. for his service to our country and his outstanding efforts for bettering our future.

Union League President Admiral Thomas Lynch (Ret.) Announced as
2015 Mustang Scholars Foundation Man of the Year

Mustang Scholars - 2015 Man of the Year Admiral Thomas LynchSince 2002, over 50 young men and women have benefited from a Mustang Scholarship. With exceptional drive and determination, our Mustang Scholars rise from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to fulfill their promise.

The magic of Mustang Scholars Foundation is the leverage that can be obtained for a relatively small investment. In collaboration with Valley Forge Military Academy and College and ROTC, Mustang Scholars is able to obtain education at a lower cost, providing more opportunities to deserving young people

Those who support the Mustang Scholars Foundation are a different breed,
too. And every year, in saluting all those who offer their generous support to the Mustang Scholars Foundation, we honor one person who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in making a positive impact in business and in their community.

The Mustang Scholars Foundation, Inc. introduced Admiral Thomas Lynch (Ret), President of the Union League, as their 2015 Man of the Year at a Union League lluncheon.

“To be chosen for this auspicious honor and to be in the same company of those who have preceded me is very humbling,” said Admiral Lynch. “I am aware of the foundation's past accomplishments and am proud that I may assist in this legacy of service.”

Lynch is a 1964 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served on three active duty tours, including commander of the Eisenhower Battle Group during Operation Desert Storm (1990-91).  He was also the Superintendent of the Naval Academy from 1991 to 1994 and director of the Navy Staff at the Pentagon from 1994 to 1995.

Lynch is currently the chairman of the board of directors of NewDay USA, a mortgage company that specializes in Veterans Administration (VA) loans to active and retired military personnel. He serves on many boards including the Catholic Leadership Institute, the USO Board of Governors and the Philadelphia Sports Conference. In 2010 he was recognized as a Naval Academy Distinguished Graduate and in 2013 he became the 68th President of The Union League of Philadelphia.

“We are proud to honor Admiral Lynch as our Man of the Year,” said Peter Connors, president of the board of directors of the Mustang Scholars Foundation. “His service to the nation and support of programs that positively affect the lives of young people has touched many lives. We welcome him to the elite group of Mustang Scholars honorees.”
